One Journey, Many Expressions of Care

Looking back on the different chapters of my life, I can see how each experience, each encounter, and each unexpected passage has contributed to the person I am today. For much of my professional life, nourishment has been at the heart of my work. It began in the culinary arts, where caring for the body through food became an expression of creativity, attention, and well-being. Over more than twenty-five years in the culinary world, I had the privilege of developing my work across Montréal, Geneva, Milan, and Las Vegas. Through MCHEF, the company I founded in 2003, I explored conscious nourishment, organic ingredients, and the relationship between food and well-being.

My work also found expression through culinary writing and cookbooks, where I could share my experience and understanding of nourishment with others. Looking back, I recognize that something deeper was already present in those years: a desire to contribute to the well-being of others through what I could create and share. Over time, life would lead me toward other expressions of nourishment, through music, writing, spiritual practice, and the quiet presence we offer one another.

When Nourishment Finds Another Language

Music has accompanied my life for many years. At the piano, I found another way of expressing what words sometimes struggle to carry. Music opened a space for listening, contemplation, and connection. Through my compositions as MariDo, I began sharing melodies that could accompany moments of reflection, tenderness, remembrance, and inner stillness. The kitchen and the piano may appear to belong to different worlds. Yet both taught me something about attention, sensitivity, and the quiet exchange that takes place when something is offered with care. Over time, writing and spiritual practice became equally meaningful expressions of this same intention.

When Life Changes the Way We Understand Healing

In 2023, my life entered a passage I could never have anticipated. A diagnosis of multiple cancers, extensive treatments, and a bone marrow transplant brought me into an unfamiliar landscape of vulnerability, uncertainty, and profound change. Survival was an extraordinary gift. Yet the experience of healing continued well beyond the medical treatments. There were dimensions of recovery that were difficult to explain. The body was rebuilding, while the inner life was also finding its way through everything that had happened. I began to understand healing through a wider lens, one that embraces our physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual experience. My years of contemplative practice, Reiki, prayer, and music took on a different depth. Silence became meaningful in new ways. So did the presence of another person, the tenderness of being heard, and the freedom to experience life without having every question answered. Some understandings arrive through study and experience. Others emerge quietly through what life asks us to live.

The Emergence of a New Chapter

Reflective writing gradually became another expression of a journey that had already taken many forms. Through Semper Fidelis — Always Faithful, Beyond the Veil — Living the Presence of the Invisible, and Beyond Recovery — A Companion for Healing, Integration, and Inner Reconstruction, I began exploring the human experiences that had become especially close to my heart: healing, grief, resilience, love, inner transformation, and the passages that reshape our understanding of life. These books opened the way to further reflections through my Journal and The Passages, a growing collection of contemplative writings, that give gentle expression to experiences we may recognize but find difficult to name.

More recently, The Passages — Narrations Podcast and le balado Les Passages — Narrations have brought these reflections into spoken form, in English and French. Through my natural voice, accompanied by moments of stillness, the written word becomes another invitation to listen. My piano compositions continue to accompany this work, allowing music and reflection to meet in their own rhythm.

What Remains at the Heart of My Work

Today, I describe myself as an author, contemplative pianist, Reiki Master, and spiritual companion. These expressions reflect different dimensions of my life, yet I experience them as part of one continuous journey. The culinary arts taught me to nourish with attention. Music taught me to listen beyond words. Writing opened a place for reflection. Reiki and spiritual companionship deepened my appreciation for presence and the uniqueness of each person's experience. And life itself continues to teach me about vulnerability, gratitude, uncertainty, and the quiet strength we sometimes discover along the way. My work now centers on accompanying people through healing, grief, life transitions, and inner transformation. Sometimes that companionship takes the form of a book. Sometimes it is a melody, a reflection, a prayer, or a moment of shared silence.

I believe there are many ways to nourish a human life.

And perhaps the thread connecting everything I have done is simpler than I once imagined.

To offer something of myself with care, and to meet another person, one heart at a time.
