There are books we plan to write.
And there are books that quietly emerge from life itself.
Beyond Recovery belongs to the second category.
I did not begin writing this book with the intention of creating a guide.
I began writing because there was a part of healing I rarely saw being spoken about.
Not the illness itself.
Not the treatments.
Not even survival.
But what comes after.
For many years, I believed that healing would arrive as a destination.
A moment when everything would return to normal.
A moment when the body would recover, life would resume, and the chapter would be complete.
My own journey taught me something different.
Following cancer, bone marrow transplantation, and recovery, I discovered that survival was not the end of the story.
In many ways, it was the beginning of another one.
There is a season after illness that often remains invisible.
The appointments become less frequent.
The treatments end.
The world begins to move forward.
Yet something within continues to rebuild.
The body remembers.
The nervous system remembers.
The heart remembers.
And healing continues in ways that are not always visible from the outside.
This is the space where Beyond Recovery was born.
Not from expertise.
Not from theory.
But from lived experience.
From the quiet observations that emerged during recovery.
From the questions that had no immediate answers.
From the days that asked for patience.
From the moments that invited trust.
Over time, I began to understand that healing is not only physical.
It is emotional.
Psychological.
Energetic.
Spiritual.
It touches every part of our relationship with ourselves and with life.
I also came to see that many people walk through this phase feeling alone.
Not because they lack support.
But because the deeper process of reconstruction is rarely visible.
This book was written for those people.
For those recovering from cancer, illness, bone marrow transplantation, exhaustion, grief, or any experience that has changed the landscape of their lives.
It was written as a companion.
Not a set of instructions.
Not a promise.
A companion.
A place to pause.
To reflect.
To breathe.
To feel understood.
As I look back, I realize that Beyond Recovery did not emerge alone.
It follows a path that began years earlier through the books that came before it. Semper Fidelis was born through the exploration of presence. Through uncertainty, challenge, and the search for an inner space that could remain steady when circumstances could not. Beyond the Veil emerged through grief, remembrance, and the discovery that love often continues far beyond physical absence. And Beyond Recovery arose from the profound reconstruction that follows survival itself.
Together, these books explore different landscapes of the human experience.
Presence.
Love.
Healing.
Transformation.
Each was written from lived experience.
Each was written for those who seek understanding, comfort, meaning, and a deeper relationship with life.
Together, they reflect a simple truth that continues to reveal itself through every passage: What changes us most deeply can also open us more fully to ourselves, to others, and to love.
As I wrote these pages, one understanding returned again and again: Healing is not always about returning to who we once were.
Sometimes it is about learning to live from what we have become.
That sentence eventually became the heart of the book.
And perhaps the heart of my own journey as well.
Beyond Recovery explores the often unseen dimensions of healing that continue after survival:
• body awareness and inner listening
• emotional integration and resilience
• rebuilding trust in the body
• movement, stillness, and restoration
• grief, transformation, and meaning
• conscious presence and personal growth
• hope, reconstruction, and renewal
It is not a book about becoming someone new.
It is a book about learning to walk gently with who you have become.
Beyond Recovery: A Companion for Healing, Integration, and Inner Reconstruction will be released on September 1, 2026. The French edition, Au-delà du rétablissement, will be available shortly after the release of the English edition.
My hope is simple.
If these pages help even one person feel less alone in their healing, less pressured by their recovery, or more at peace with the pace of their own reconstruction, then this book will have fulfilled its purpose.
Healing does not always end when treatment ends.
In many ways, it begins there.
With gratitude,
Marie
